Dental Reasons the Roof of Your Mouth May Ache
Do you notice that the roof of your mouth aches every now and then? If so, you are not alone. Other people visit our office about this dental issue. Read the details below to find out why this condition emerges and what you can do about it.

Why the Mouth of the Roof Hurts

When you visit our office with a mouth that hurts, we may find it does so for one of various reasons. For example, sores, such as cold sores and canker sores, may appear sometimes on the roof of the mouth. Because the sores trigger pain, your mouth will ache or hurt. You may notice swelling or discomfort before the sore's appearance. The roof of a mouth will also hurt because of a trauma or injury. Some of the common reasons for trauma include getting scratched by a sharp piece of food while eating or consuming an extremely hot food item. Hard foods can also hurt the roof of the mouth if they are eaten or swallowed carelessly.

Why You May Need Extra Water

The mouth of your roof can also ache or hurt if you have not consumed enough water. This can occur if you have an excessive intake of alcohol or you are taking some medicines. You may also need hydration simply because you are not drinking a sufficient amount of water. Illness or excessive sweating can also lead to dehydration. When dehydration occurs, the electrolytes are affected. As a result, you may feel weak or experience intermittent muscle spasms inside or outside the mouth.
Before you opt for a home remedy, you should contact our office with your concerns first. We can more directly treat the problem after we diagnose the cause. Whether your mouth hurts because of an underlying condition or because of a dental problem, we can address the soreness and pain and provide you with the required relief. To learn more about any dental concern, give us a call and arrange for an exam and cleaning. Never go it alone when you are taking care of your teeth and gums. To keep dental expenses low and maintain a healthy smile, you also need to contact our office every six months for professional exams and cleanings. Give us a call today. You will be glad you did. When you take care of your teeth at-home and professionally, you add to your quality of life.
