Sedation For Kids
Ann Arbor, MI
When it comes to your kids, we know that you want them to be as comfortable as possible in the dentist's chair. It will make them, yourself, and the dentist infinitely more at ease. Here at Embree Dentistry, we will do whatever we can to calm your child's anxiety as they walk through our doors. When they do not entirely understand what exactly is going on, they can become easily alarmed, disrupting not only their experience but making it more difficult for us to do our job, which increases the risk of something going wrong. Soothing them is integral. Sedation dentistry is a great option to do just that.
What is Sedation Dentistry?Soothing the fears of anxious or fearful patients is something that we must do on a daily basis here in our office. It is the best way to keep our patients calm enough to be pain-free along with keeping them from fidgeting or inadvertently biting down. If they are not in a state of relaxation, complications can occur more easily than they ordinarily would. It increases the chances that both your child and our staff could get hurt. Sedation dentistry allows us to bypass that risk.
Utilizing different medications, we induce a sense of peace and tranquility in your child to reduce fidgeting and calm their fears. It is also effective in that we can perform more procedures in a shorter amount of time than we would be able to another way. This reduces how often your son or daughter has to come in. They will be able to come in more confidently after the pleasant experience that comes along with a sedated visit and often leads them to pursue a healthier mouth and allowing them to come in more frequently than they may have if they grew up in fear. Establishing that oral health care routine is essential for later in life.
How Does It Work?Sedation dentistry works in different ways depending on the level of sedation that your child requires. All levels provide differing levels of tranquility and different effects. They all provide relaxation and can enhance your child's experience. Different medications can be used to achieve different results. Nitrous oxide, for example, is a very light sedative, while some other medications can lead to a deep sleep.
A designated staff member will remain beside your child throughout the entire process, monitoring their vitals and tweaking anything that is required. If your child is not healthy enough to receive this kind of treatment, we will not use it. If they are, then it will be administered shortly before the procedure begins, either in a nose mask delivering gas, oral syrup, or an IV.
We here at Embree Dentistry are devoted to your child's comfort at all times. If you think that he or she may benefit from sedation dentistry, be sure to give us a call at (734) 973-0000 today to find out how it can help them feel better and lead to long lasting good oral care habits.
